What is a Project Management Assessment? This is a consulting service that we offer to evaluate your company’s current processes for managing projects.

What do you mean by PM Maturity? Maturity is a measure of a company’s sophistication in managing projects. We developed the Berkeley PM Maturity Model (PM)2 as part of this evaluation process. It is analogous to the Software Engineering Institute’s Capability Maturity Model.

Why is a PM Assessment important? We help you measure and document your company’s current PM Maturity. We also help you measure the Return on Investment of your PM activities. Every executive is interested in this number.

How is a PM Assessment conducted? We work with you to explain our technique. Typically, we work with you to select one or more parts of your business to evaluate. We brief the persons involved on the evaluation’s purpose and process. Information and data are collected by interviewing the people involved (typically, 4 to 8 person-hours are required for each person). We then analyze this information, and prepare reports and executive briefings for you, your team and your executive management.

Are the results kept confidential? Yes. We have dozens of companies in our database, and we will tell you who those companies are. But we will not divulge the specific data of a company – other than your own.

What can I do with this information? You can plan PM improvements – training, systems, hiring, consulting, etc. activities in a more cost effective manner. You can also compare your company to peers, or set up benchmarks for various departments within your company. Some firms also conduct periodic assessments to track their improvements over time.

What does PM/RoIsm mean? It is a consulting service that we provide to 1) assess your organization’s PM processes, 2) forecast what improvements you could make that would have a high payoff, and 3) estimate what the return on investment would be for the improvements we recommend.
